Friday-eve! When Do You Take a Break?

Wake Up!? What am I talking about? Moms are already up and at'em this Thursday. A couple of years ago, a friend of mine told me that Thursday was considered the Grown Folks Weekend, not the normal Friday evening but Thursday. Mainly because you can have a great time without all of the large crowds out enjoying the Friday break of the workweek. Me, myself, I absolutely love Thursdays! Though most Thursdays, I am working and working, and working. I like to think that if I would like to do something cute or special it will likely be on a Thursday.  This week I have been preparing for my customary break in the work cycle. I have been getting some new things in place like securing training and attending networking opportunities and meeting with new clients.  On Monday, I began a new commitment to service by learning about strategic planning for large non-profit organizations. This is a familiar area of expertise but I am not an expert, yet. I look to gain some useful knowled

Just another Manic Monday...

It's just another Manic Monday for many Moms, but it doesn't have to be. I heard a sermon yesterday that really spoke to me. The topic was about depression but the points made were really relative to healthy living whether you have depression or not and especially as a mompreneur. The lesson was based on a scriptural passage taken from 1 Kings 19 involving Elijah, Ahab, and Jezebel. The story deals with Elijah feeling alone in his quest to do what he felt he was called to do. Elijah felt he needed to steal away in fear of being punished for his mission. He felt alone and left behind. God reassured Elijah that he would be ok and to continue on his path. God gave Elijah 3 things to do as he encouraged him to continue on his path. I am not going to rewrite the sermon. I will expound on the key points as to how I interpreted the relation to my life as a mompreneur. 1. Rest Well. 2. Eat Well 3. Live Well As mompreneurs, we need these 3 points as a daily mantra in our lives

10 Inspiring Tips For Mompreneurs

Hi Moms, It's about 15 hours before regular nine to fivers will prepare for the next work week. But as we Moms know, there are many weekends when we don't have a break or we have to be deliberate about taking a break. #STRONG Since my brainiac, Karma, was 7 years old I have been working on my own goals of being my own boss. After grad school, the BMOB bug (be my own boss) bit me and a dream came alive. The seed was planted long before I started college.  I grew up in a household with entrepreneuring parents. My mother and father were always keen on building their own business. My parents used their talents to build a b2c small business. Their business grew from wood carving business that helped them to show off their creative skills to my mother's Soft Stuff company. Both parents worked their day jobs and made time for their passions, but my Mom was the 1st Mompreneur that I knew and learned about being a business woman!  #RESILIENT What started out as a trades evolve

Always Bet on Yourself!

Good morning Mom-preneures, Today started early for me, 5 am to be exact. Up and at them working on a consultation summary for a potential client. One pearl of wisdom I picked up on Wednesday at the business fair is "Always Bet on Yourself'. Moms,  I must say this message was reinforcement to get on my hustle consistently and passionately. Either I can work on someone else's dream or I can work to make my own goals a full time gig. I had to ask myself, what is your decision DBC? Ten years ago, I bet on myself and launched my advocacy/educational firm. After year 5 of operation,  I decided to revamp the focus and services of my educational firm. I decided that as an Educational Change Agent, I must strategically engage all stakeholders to align to my firms focus, investing in our children.  Here's a link to my firm www.bibbcook.com Currently, I work with independent schools (charter and parochial/private) supporting their teachers in providing nurturing educationa

Business

Congresswoman E. Holmes-Norton had her annual DC Small Business Fair on last Wednesday. The theme was Launch, Grow and Innovate your Business . If you are ever in DC when this event happens be sure to attend. It's extremely informative for small  business owners specifically in DC. There was information for SBOs that are interested in government contracting, business to business (b2b) and business to consumer (b2c), start-ups and women owned businesses. Companies like the HeraHub (Julia Westfall), Soundwise (Natasha Che), Seedspot (C'pher Gresham and Duane Rollins) and Curtis Porter (Capital Group) were there to offer insight to the journey of an Entrepreneur.  I learned so much on Wednesday. As my dad used to say...'learning puts wrinkles on your brain'. Way to go "Warrior on the Hill" and Champion of SBOs, Congresswoman Holmes Norton.
